Functional Medicine looks at the root causes that create disease onset (nutrient deficiencies, chronic stress, microbiome imbalances, exposures to harmful chemicals and other toxins, mitochondrial dysfunction, food sensitivities, hidden infections, and more) and aims to restore health by targeting these root causes in a personalized way (with DNA insights, and by considering your personal lifestyle preferences and routines). In contrast, standard western medicine often sends you to one doctor for your chronic skin rash, another doctor for your chronic digestive issues, and another doctor for your chronic headaches. Maybe each doctor then prescribes a medication to lessen symptoms, which is great if that's your only goal, but many patients are seeking a different approach. Functional Medicine looks at you as a whole, and addresses the root causes of health dysfunction with a goal to restore optimal health.

Our clients can expect a personalized approach to their health. Our 4-month package includes two in-person appointments with Dr. Ruth, one coaching appointment with Coach Allison, and email support for the duration of the package. Like a detective, Dr. Ruth uses a variety of methods to investigate your health case, and Dr. Ruth and Allison work together to support you with a personalized plan of action. Some clients want to gather as much information as possible about their bodies through testing, including testing for nutrient deficiencies, DNA SNPS, heavy metals, mold, hormone levels, gut microbiome composition, general bloodwork and more. On the other hand, some clients are less interested in testing, or are on a tight budget, in which case we can work with you to identify the top recommended tests for your case. We also consider your lifestyle preferences and routines, and work with you to identify health solutions that are practical and achievable.

Our approach is catered to each individual's preferences. As a board-certified medical doctor, Dr. Ruth can order prescription medications, and can also recommend supplements and lifestyle solutions. This is an integrative approach, personalized to your unique body, symptoms, budget, and preferences. Dr. Ruth comes ready to consult on a variety of solutions and routes you can take, and you decide what works for you!
